Blackton Grange is
easy to find, by following these
instructions carefully:
DO NOT USE SAT NAV FOR DIRECTIONS AS YOU
WILL END UP ON THE
WRONG SIDE OF BLACKTON RESERVOIR !!

From A1 South
-
Travel North up
the A1 turning off at Scotch Corner onto
the A66 towards Penrith.
-
Pass Rokeby Park
on the Right Hand Side and take the
right turn signposted to Barnard Castle.
-
Go straight
through the traffic lights at Barnard
Castle following the B6277 towards
Middleton-in-Teesdale.
-
Just before the
village sign of Romaldskirk, turn left
(signed Hunderthwaite and Hury).
-
Continue for 4
miles, passing the dead end sign, until
a sign leads left through the gates and
over the cattle grid to Balderhead
Reservoir.

Follow the road
across the dam and take the track
immediately left, to Blackton Grange.
From A1 North
-
Exit A1M at Jct 61
heading on the A688 through Bishop
Auckland on to Barnard Castle
-
As you approach
Barnard Castle centre, you’ll come to a
mini roundabout with a petrol station on
your right hand side. Go straight across
and through the town centre.

At the next
roundabout, go straight across, then
through a set of traffic lights which
takes you over the bridge and out of
Barnard Castle.

Turn right onto
the B6277 towards Middleton-in-Teesdale.

Just before the
village sign of Romaldskirk, turn left
(signed Hunderthwaite and Hury).

Continue for 4
miles, passing the dead end sign, until
a sign leads left through the gates and
over the cattle grid to Balderhead
Reservoir.

Follow the road
across the dam and take the track
immediately left, to Blackton Grange
From the West
-
Take the A66 to
Darlington
-
Join the A67 to
Barnard Castle
-
As you approach
Barnard Castle centre, you’ll come to a
mini roundabout with a petrol station on
your right hand side. Go straight across
and through the town centre.

At the next
roundabout, go straight across, then
through a set of traffic lights which
takes you over the bridge and out of
Barnard Castle.

Turn right onto
the B6277 towards Middleton-in-Teesdale.

Just before the
village sign of Romaldskirk, turn left
(signed Hunderthwaite and Hury).

Continue for 4
miles, passing the dead end sign, until
a sign leads left through the gates and
over the cattle grid to Balderhead
Reservoir.

Follow the road
across the dam and take the track
immediately left, to Blackton Grange.
From the M6 South
(Beautiful scenic route, take in good
weather only)

Leave the M6 at
Jct 38 heading on the A685 to Brough
-
At Brough pick up
the B6276 towards Middleton in Teesdale
-
After approx
11miles you’ll pass Selset Reservoir on
your right hand side. Straight after the
reservoir there’s a right turn for
Kenton down a single track road
-
Follow the road
across the Grassholme reservoir bridge
(driving very carefully!) and up the
hill to the crossroads.

Go straight over
the crossroads and follow the road until
you reach a t-junction where you turn
right
-
Watch out for a
sign pointing left through the gates and
over the cattle grid to Balderhead
Reservoir.

Follow the road
across the dam and take the track
immediately left, to Blackton Grange.
From the M6 South
(Bad weather alternative)

Leave the M6 at
Jct 38 heading on the A685 to Brough
-
At Brough follow
the A66 to Bowes
-
Pick up the A67 to
Barnard Castle
-
Go straight
through the traffic lights at Barnard
Castle following the B6277 towards
Middleton-in-Teesdale.
-
Just before the
village sign of Romaldskirk, turn left
(signed Hunderthwaite and Hury).

Continue for 4
miles, passing the dead end sign, until
a sign leads left through the gates and
over the cattle grid to Balderhead
Reservoir.

Follow the road
across the dam and take the track
